💰 Profits:

This week's top news to keep more money in your pockets:

  • What's all this talk about Trump and tariffs and why should I care as a small business owner? If your products are being made in China, Canada or Mexico, it's time to understand how a tariff (a government-imposed tax on imported or exported goods) may affect your pockets. Here's how some small business owners are preparing.
  • Fill out this report or get fined up to $10,000. The government is aiming to #StopTheScammers (yes, I made that hashtag up) with a new requirement to report beneficial ownership information to the Treasury's Financial Crimes Enforcement Network. See if you have to complete the form.
  • Over half of small businesses are struggling to grow but these 5 tips can help.

🚀 Pointers:

January is around the corner, Reader. Before you get overwhelmed with all the things you need to do to scale your business, I wanted to share 5 rules to keep your 2025 marketing plan simple, focused, and revenue-generating:

  1. Follow the Money 💰
How much revenue do you want to bring in this new year, Reader? Got your number? Great! Now all you need to do is work backward. For example, if you want to make $100K and your product costs $100, you'll need 1,000 sales this year. Breaking that down even further, that's 250 per quarter, or 166 per month, or 5 per day. You'll want to break down that big, annual number into something that feels a bit more achievable. (And if it still doesn't feel achievable, it's okay to start smaller until you identify systems that allow you to scale.)
  2. Follow Your Customers 🙋🏾‍♀️
Reader, you've heard this a million times, but you really don't have to be everywhere at once. Find where your ideal customer spends time and double down there. If they're on Instagram, lean into that instead of spreading yourself thin across Twitter, TikTok, and Linkedin. If they go to live events, focus on having a presence through a partnership or sponsorship at local events. (Remember, marketing isn't just what you do online.)
  3. Follow a Strategy ✨
The #1 mistake most business owners make is jumping into action without a
clear strategy. Before hitting "post" on that social media update or paying for that ad, take a moment to ask yourself: "What’s the goal here?" Are you driving awareness? Boosting sales? Building trust and loyalty?
If you can’t pinpoint the purpose, you might be doing marketing for marketing’s sake—which is the quickest way to burn out without seeing consistent results. Instead, start by understanding your revenue goals and your customers' needs. Then ensure every marketing effort aligns with those objectives.
  4. Follow the Data 📈
Now that you know your goals, audience, and plan to reach them, it's time to check your analytics. Is your social media
actually driving traffic to your website? Are you actually seeing more sales or followers after an influencer post?
It's important to note that marketing doesn’t always lead to an instant sale, but it should inspire your audience to take some sort of action—like signing up for your newsletter, following your page, or downloading a free resource—that moves them closer down the pipeline to becoming customers. Set aside time each month to look at you data and make adjustments.
  5. Follow a Consistent Schedule ⏰
It's easy to stop your marketing efforts when you're not immediately seeing results, but successful marketing is a long game, Reader. Using automation tools to schedule social media posts, blog updates or emails can help you stay consistent without the overwhelm. Remember, every "overnight success" was actually
years in the making -- with many days of $0 sales and 0 likes, comments, or shares.

⚡️ Products:

Marketing changes constantly and it's common to not know if you're using the "right" tools. Here are three must-have tools that I believe every entrepreneur should have in their 2025 arsenal:

  • 2025 Small Business Marketing Strategy Toolkit
I created this free template to be your roadmap for setting goals, picking the right channels, and mapping out Q1 campaigns. If you learn anything from today's newsletter, it should be to stop winging it and make a real plan, Reader.
  • Notion*
If you're a solopreneur, like me, it can be hard to manage all of the things you have to do each day. So I want you to meet your new virtual assistant! Use Notion to visually map campaigns, track deadlines, and keep everything organized.
  • Canva
I am not a designer and if I had all the money in the world, I'd pay someone to create
everything I put out. But, alas, the road of entrepreneurship is a frugal one. Canva has been my go to creative design tool for years. With Canva's variety of templates, you can create attention-grabbing designs in less than 5 minutes.

*Heads up: I may earn a commission if you grab these, but I only recommend tools I actually love and use in my business!

🔮 Predictions:

Reader, it's seriously time to make artificial intelligence (AI) your best friend.

  • Why It Matters: Yes, AI can help you brainstorm marketing ideas. But, it can also help you crunch data and analyze customer browsing habits, purchase history, and more to deliver tailored content that feels directly relevant to your business.
  • What You Gain When Using AI: Clearer insights, less time on manual tasks, deeper engagement with customers.
  • How to Start:
    • Pick your preferred AI tool - My go to is typically Gemini or ChatGPT.
    • For content ideas, try this prompt, "I'm a (insert industry) business looking to reach (insert audience i.e. women, ages 25-35 that are interested in career changes), identify 4 challenges this audience faces and help me develop 5 content ideas for (insert social media platform)."
    • For data ideas, download the file you want to analyze and try this prompt, "Here is (insert what data is for...i.e. my 2024 sales volume). What are 3 learnings that I should take into 2025 related to sales for my business? Explain this to me in layman's terms"
